NAJAF, Iraq – In a ceremony marking the birth anniversary of Imam Ali (PBUH), Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Bashir al-Najafi (may Allah prolong his life) formally conferred the religious turban upon a group of students from the Islamic seminary, signifying their transition into the ranks of the religious clergy.

The event, held at the Marja's office, was part of the commemorations for the birth of the first Shia Imam, Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (PBUH), during the holy month of Rajab. The turban, or 'amama, is a traditional symbol of religious scholarship, piety, and commitment to clerical life.

In his address to the newly adorned seminarians, Ayatollah al-Najafi emphasized the profound responsibilities that accompany their new status. He advised them to be “servants of the religion and the faithful,” underscoring that actions must precede words and that their primary mission is to guide the community on the path of truth.

The Grand Ayatollah further highlighted the critical role of practical and ethical conduct for religious scholars, stating that their behavior must reflect the noble mission of the religious seminaries in safeguarding core Islamic values and strengthening societal faith.

This ceremony is seen as part of Ayatollah al-Najafi's ongoing commitment to mentoring the next generation of religious scholars. It reinforces the traditional pathway of clerical education in Najaf, one of the world's oldest and most prominent centers of Shia Islamic scholarship, and aligns with the teachings of Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT).
