Question:Is there a difference in blood money (compensation) between intentional murder, manslaughter, and accidental killing? What is blood money anyway?
Answer:In the name of Allah, blood money is the same for all cases. The difference lies in determining who is obligated to pay the blood money. In cases of intentional murder and manslaughter, it is the responsibility of the killer. In cases of pure accidental killing, it is the responsibility of the guardian or family of the deceased. The blood money for the murder of a Muslim is either 100 camels, or 1,000 dinars, and each dinar is equivalent to three-quarters of the weight of the barley grain used for measurement in banking, or 1,000 sheep, or ten thousand dirhams. Each dirham is equivalent to 12.6 mithqals (measurement of weight) of silver. Allah knows best.
Question:Is the blood money calculated in pure 24 karat gold, or it is calculated with 21 karat gold, which is customary in the country?
Answer:In the name of Allah, it is sufficient to do with the gold which is customary in the country. Allah knows best.
