Question:Some people question the fact that we respect Salman Al-Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him). History mentions that he was the governor of Al-Mada'en during the era of the second Caliph? How did you accept this position?
Answer:In the name of Allah, when this region was taken over by Muslims in the regime of the second Caliph, a person who knew the customs and language of the Persians was needed to be a guide for them to the Islamic religion, which was new to the people of the region. There was no person in Medina at that time more capable than Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) for this. With the instructions from Ali ibn Abi Talib (PBUH), Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) accepts this task and he performed it well. Hence, Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) was not appointed by the order of the second caliph, but by the order of Ali ibn Abi Talib (PBUH), and it is known that spreading the true religion is one of the duties of the imam in his time. Ali ibn Abi Talib (PBUH) was keener on religion than anyone else during his life and after his death. Allah knows best.
