Question:I have a brother who drinks alcohol and only prays on Fridays or some prayers during the week. I want to help him get married, build a house for him, assist him financially, and start a business for him. Will I be held accountable if I do this?
Answer:In the name of Allah, it is not permissible for you to assist him in committing haram - buying and drinking alcohol. However, you may assist him in other lawful matters. My son, I hope that you will make your assistance to him in lawful matters a means to guide him and bring him to obedience. He is your brother, and you know better than anyone else after Allah how to approach and guide him. It is reported from one of the infallibles (PBUH): "If Allah guides one person through you, it is better for you than the whole world and what it contains." This was addressed by the Prophet (PBUH&HF) to Imam Ali (PBUH). So, if guidance for one man is better for Ali ibn Abi Talib (PBUH), then how can it not be for others? Allah is the Guide, and He is the Knower.
