Question:What is the evidence that it is recommended to take off the shirts in the tragedy of Imam Hussein (PBUH).
Answer:In the name of Allah, there is no problem in that, but if this situation usually reflects sadness and regret, then it is desirable and required. Be informed, my son, that the narrations which referred to expressing sadness for the tragedies of Ahlulbait (PBUT), especially the master of martyrs (PBUH) are almost consecutively deduced ones. The ways of showing sadness differs according to the time, place and conditions. If a person was in a procession whose members hit the chest or use chains to show sadness for the master of martyrs (PBUH), this cannot be done without taking off the shirts. Thus, the narrations which refer to showing and expressing sadness logically refer to taking off the clothes. Allah knows best
Question:What is the ruling on removing the shirt during the mourning sessions for Imam Hussein (PBUH) in the mourning processions, bearing in mind that these activities may be broadcasted live on TV or be in the holy shrines before the eyes of women who gather to listen to mourning sessions and Latmyias?
Answer:In the name of Allah, as for the women looking directly to men, they must avoid that even if it is on the TV, if it arises some psychological reaction. Be advised, my daughters, that every part of a woman’s body that is forbidden for a foreign man to look at, is forbidden for a woman to look at it as for the man as well. If we are determined to prevent men from uncovering what is forbidden for a woman to look at from his body, then we have to forbid men to uncover the heads, necks, arms and ears. Do you, my son, accept to wear a woman gown which covers your body from head to toe. Women desire to look at men and the latter could not prevent the former from going outside and looking at the strangers. (How do you judge?) (how then are you perverted?)[ أنى تأفكون]. Allah is the Guide.
Question:As we are living the days of Imam Hussein's (PBUH) martyrdom anniversary, we are group of youth who would like to have your opinion regarding some of the ways of grieving. Some people have objected to such ways; thus, problems happened between the two parties. Would you please give your opinion so it will be in favour of the sect? 1. Alshoor way of hitting the chest and uttering the word Hussein without the letter "H" such that it becomes Sein. 2. Hitting the chest without clothes. 3. Switching all the lights and keeping the red light only.
Answer:In the name of Allah, 1. There is no problem in repeating the word Hussein or whatever indicates it as this refers to the fact that they are not committed to the standard Arabic. This is because the accents and dialects have mixed with the standard Arabic and also the non-Arabs have mixed with the Arabs. Allah knows best. 2. If the purpose is to commemorate Al-Taf Tragedy and to keep the fire burning inside the hearts, there is no problem in that. Allah knows best. 3. There is no problem in that as well. Allah knows best.
Question:What is the ruling of Al-Shoor mourning style which is done through repeating the name of Imam Hussein quickly (Hussein Hussein Hussein) or and sometimes the /h/ sound is reduced so that (Sein Sein Sein) can be heard instead?
Answer:A/ 1- In the name of Allah, there is no problem in repeating the word Hussein or whatever indicating it as this refers to the fact that they are not committed to the standard Arabic. This is because the accents and dialects have mixed with the standard Arabic and also the non-Arabs have mixed with the Arabs. Allah knows best. A/ 2- In the name of Allah, if the purpose is to revive the tragedy of Al-Taf and make it remain permanent, then it is permissible. Allah knows best. A/ 3- In the name of Allah, it is permissible. Allah knows best.
Question: Is it permissible for a woman to beat her face and spread her hair in the grieving session of Imam Hussein (PBUH)?
Answer:In the name of Allah, it is permissible, provided that it is in front of women only and not seen by a stranger. Allah knows best
Question:Is it possible for a woman to perform grieving session on Imam Hussein (PBUH), where she removes the veil and beat their chests in front of the other women, and sometimes part of their chest area gets uncovered?
Answer: In the name of Allah, it is permissible, provided that there is nothing against Sharia like raising the voice and heard by a stranger (non-Mahram person) and there is no stranger amongst them. Allah knows best.
Question: Is there something in the Latm (beating the chest) which can belittle the dignity of Islam or the identity of Shias?
Answer:In the name of Allah, I do not see any of what you have mentioned. On the contrary, the strong opposition of the enemies of Hussein (PBUH) and Ahlulbait (PBUH) to this act indicates its importance in spreading the Shia doctrine and attracting the people towards to Ahlulbait’s (PBUH) loyalty which is the salvation ship. Don’t you see that the human nature is to be happy when seeing an enemy sad or crying and vice versa. In Hussein’s (PBUH) issue, the exact opposite happens. The Shia people cry and the Sunni is not like that and the Shia beat their chests and the enemies do not stand that. All that is evidence that the tragedy of Al-Taf is like a spear in the enemies’ chest and it makes their blood boil. This is what they inherited from their ancestors, Banu Omayyad and Banu Al-Abbas, who tried their best to remove Ahlulbait’s (PBUH) sect. Allah is the all Guide.
Question:What is his Eminence’s opinion regarding beating the chest in mourning Imam Hussein (PBUH) and in other mourning sessions, in Sharia and practice?
Answer:In the name of Allah, the answer is included in the questions above.
Question:/ In his Eminence’s opinion, what is the origin of Latm (beating the chest) on the master of martyrs (PBUH)?
Answer:We have come to know from the earlier Q&A’s that each people and area has their or its traditions or way of expressing ecstasy and sadness for something. The Imams (PBUH) ordered us to commemorate this tragedy and did not specify the way of doing that. This means that every act is permissible unless it violates the sharia in any way. Therefore, commemorating this tragedy can be done by the followers of Imam Hussein (PBUH) through all the acts or ways they like to do. May Allah grant them victory and success and make paradise and seeing Imam Hussein (PBUH) as their rewards. Allah is the all Guide.
Question:Some people cover their entire face and body on the tenth of Muharram. Then, they start beating their chests. Is that permissible?
Answer:In the name of Allah, if that was aimed at expressing sadness for the master of martyrs (PBUH), then it is permissible. Allah knows best.
