Question:A believer arrived at the Miqat of Qarn Al-Manazil and donned the Ihram clothing, then prayed the two Rak'ahs, but did not make the intention (niyyah) nor recite the Talbiyah out of ignorance of the ruling, as he believed that Ihram is achieved by wearing the Ihram clothing and praying the two Rak'ahs only. He then entered Mecca, performed the Umrah rituals, and returned to his country. Is there anything he needs to do?
Answer:In the name of Allah, be informed, my son, that intention is an act of the heart, but it is recommended in Ihram to verbalize it. However, Ihram is valid without verbalizing the intention. The questioner, in the given scenario, intended to perform Ihram and Umrah in his heart, thus he had the intention for Umrah but did not verbalize it, thereby omitting a recommended act. However, the Talbiyah is obligatory and part of the Ihram, and since he omitted it, the Umrah is not counted for him, and there is nothing else required of him. Allah knows best.
