Question:After giving charity from lost property (waif), or any wealth of unknown ownership, or property whose owner was thought to be inaccessible, but then the owner is identified or the owner's identity is reached, is it obligatory to return the money to them?
Answer:In the name of Allah, if the charity was given with the permission of the legitimate authority, then it is not obligatory to return the money to the owner. However, if it was done without permission, it is incumbent upon them to return it. Allah knows best.
