  • Question:Every year at the time of the payment of the Khums, I suffer from a state of grievance because of the large amount paid to the representative, but - I thank Allah - am committed to pay the Khums annually and I overcome with sadness that this grief and may deprive me of the reward from the payment of Khums. Does this affect the rightness of the Khums in terms of reward?

Answer:There is no doubt that you have done your duty regarding such an issue. Yet, if your grievance is due to the departure of a portion of your wealth, you must know that what you have given to the Marja’ or by an honest representative is not yours. The Khums is for Imam (peace be upon him) and Sayeds. If your grief is for fear of money that it may not reach the Marja’, for example (God forbid), in the sense of doubt in the honesty of the representative, claim a receipt – with signature and stamp of the Marja’ for the Khums money that you want to pay. Then, do not you ask yourself that you did not blame some of the enemies of the Ahlulbait (PBUH) who have taken the right of Ahlulbait (PBUH) (such as Fadak) or looted the tents of al-Hussein (PBUH) or some representatives who looted the money of the imams (PBUH) as an act of disobedience. How can human have the ability to blame such people whereas he finds it hard to pay the right of Ahlulbait (PBUH)?!! Do seek forgiveness, my son, and seek Allah’s refuge to tranquilize yourself and to feel happiness for the religious rights that you have presented. Such rights are considered as the cornerstones of having the Ahlulbait’s (PBUH) intercession on the Day of Judgement. Allah knows best.
